September 18, 2012 - Matrix Games, Slitherine (www.slitherine.com), and NorbSoftDev (www.norbsoftdev.net/) have signed a publishing deal to bring the Scourge of War series exclusively to their distribution channels.
The wargaming community can rejoice!!: market-leading publisher Slitherine and historical games developer NorbSoftDev have reached agreement to partner for the release of past and future games in the Scourge of War series of games. All games that are part of the franchise, including the main title Gettysburg and expansions Antietam and Pipe Creek will be releasing soon on both www.slitherine.com and www.matrixgames.com. The deal also includes the release of a brand new stand alone game, Chancellorsville, later this year.
JD McNeil, Chairman of the Slitherine group of companies said: “Norb is a long-time friend and we’ve followed his success path closely in the past, from the great success of the Take Command series to the rise of the Scourge of War franchise. We are therefore proud to be his door to the market and believe we can utilize our sales and marketing experience to increase the success of the series and help build even greater projects in the future”.
The Scourge of War series started with the release of Gettysburg in 2010. It was praised by the specialist press Armchair General saying “The level of detail is flat-out stunning” and Out of Eight stating “Gettysburg should make any strategy gamer salivate”. Since then the release of the two expansions Antietam and Pipe Creek have increased the game’s popularity amongst players.
Norb Timpko, founder of NorbSoftDev, added: “Scourge of War has had a very successful run with our dedicated fan base. We have a great multiplayer community and many people are writing mods for the game, but as an independent self publishing developer, our audience is limited. We've had a relationship with Slitherine for many years and it just made sense to take this step. Slitherine/Matrix Games specialize in reaching out to wargamers with quality product and we fit this perfectly into this framework. Self publishing is hard work and takes a lot of time away from game development and expanding the franchise to the next level. With the huge wargaming audience of Slitherine/Matrix Games, we will reach a much larger base and this will allow us to focus our time creating new games. There are a lot of ACW fans out there that have never heard of the Scourge of War franchise, so we really want to reach out and tell the world who we are”.
